The A8 Belfast to Larne Dualling project has won a gold award at the Considerate Constructors Scheme 2016 National Site Awards in the category for projects valued at £10m and over.
The project, a Joint Venture by Lagan Construction Group, Ferrovial Agroman and Costain, was undertaken on behalf of Transport NI of the Department for Regional Development (DRD). The works involved designing and converting 14.5 km of the A-road into dial carriageway between Coleman’s Corner Roundabout and the B100 Ballyrickard Road.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a national scheme which central aim is to improve the image of the construction industry in the UK. The scheme rewards the top-performing registered sites that have demonstrated the highest level of considerate construction towards the public, the workforce and the environment. The awards are only presented to the highest performing sites inspected by Considerate Constructors Monitors.
The A8 Belfast to Larne Dualling project was a significant highway infrastructure scheme for Northern Ireland (NI) that required considerable innovative technical engineering and environmental solutions, establishing new exemplar approaches in watercourse management and archaeology which have set new standards for schemes in Northern Ireland.
